The fill tube has shifted and misses the mold, the valve is overfilling, or the module is stuck mid-harvest with the fill still running. We reseat the tube, meter the valve and cycle the module. Water on the kitchen floor can also be the defrost drain, so we check that on the same visit.
An overdue filter, open food in the freezer, or ice that has sat in the bin for weeks in a rental between tenants and partially melted and refrozen. We check or replace the filter, dump and clean the bin and mold and run fresh cycles. Clumping also means the freezer door is not sealing.
A hurricane-season blink can leave the ice maker switched off in the software, the module in a fault state, or the board damaged. We check the board’s output to the module, then the module and the valve. If the board itself took the surge, that is a refrigerator repair, and we say so before writing the number.
An ice maker is a chain: supply, valve, tube, mold, thermostat, ejector, board. We test the links in order and stop at the one that is broken. The supply is confirmed at the shutoff and checked for a kink. The valve is metered for coil resistance and timed against the volume that reaches the mold. The tube is inspected for ice. The mold thermostat or thermistor is read, the ejector motor is cycled by hand or by forcing a harvest, and the board is checked for the signal it sends. On a French-door unit in an Oak Terrace Preserve townhome the door ice room gets its own temperature reading, because a warm door makes no ice no matter how good the module is.
