Named for the water between here and James Island.
Wappoo Creek is the cut that separates West Ashley from James Island, and the Wappoo Cut bridge is the road most of our days cross at least once. It is the kind of name you only know if you live here — which is the point. Wappoo Appliance Service runs from 1235 Ashley Gardens Blvd, off the Bees Ferry and Ashley River Road side of West Ashley, and from there the whole lower Charleston area is a short drive: James Island and the peninsula in fifteen minutes, Johns Island down Maybank in the same, North Charleston up I-26 in twenty, Mount Pleasant over the Ravenel Bridge in twenty-five, and Kiawah, Summerville and Sullivan’s Island at the thirty-five-minute edge of the map.
What we chose not to be
We do not chase every appliance ever made. Six machines — washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers, the range-stove-oven stack, dishwashers and the ice makers inside refrigerators — get all of our training time and all of the room on the van. Microwaves, wine coolers, standalone ice machines and commercial kitchen gear are not on the list, and when a call falls outside our lane we say so before anyone pays for a visit.

Humidity, salt air, hurricane-season surges, well water on the islands, stacked pairs in peninsula closets, rental turnovers with a four o’clock check-in — these are not footnotes here, they are half the diagnosis. The van is stocked for the faults this area actually produces, and every repair comes with the prevention note that keeps it from coming back.
